My Baby Rocks Me With One Steady Roll
With an ever expanding roster of emerging editorial photographers – the movement towards video is becoming more imperative for artists to stay competitive. Joost Vandebrug’s “My Baby Rocks Me With One Steady Roll” is a fully realized indie-pop punk, “screw it all” attitude short film driven by a track from electronica recording artist Flying Lotus. In first viewing, the black and white grit inspires a raw aesthetic of love, almost lust, between a boy and a girl. There is no story in an arc format, no protagonist, and nothing to lose or gain- it simply shows what is next for photographers… fashion editorials in motion.
Gucci was ahead of the pack when they released a collaboration with David Lynch, featuring 70’s inspired textures and drug intoxicated models for their fragrance line Gucci by Gucci in 2007. Image creation is no longer separated by photographer or director or artist. To truly create in today’s professional realm there must only be a “visual artist” and no matter what your medium is, your vision must be consistent.
